Photo Tour: The Best of Brugge

In September I spent 2 of the most enjoyable days in Brugge.  Founded in the 9th century, Brugge is the capital and the largest city of the Flemish Region of Belgium. Today it is a World Heritage Site and a popular tourist center that is indeed a sight for your eyes.  Brugge means “city of bridges”, and there’s lots of them.  Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is also sometimes referred to as “The Venice of the North”.  Brugge can best be described as an enchanting fairy-tale town.  With it’s Medieval and Romanesque architecture, narrow cobblestone streets, this is a town which is best explored on foot and without an agenda.

I took 767 photos while in Brugge, and have narrowed that down to the best that I have to offer.

  1. WOW!!!!

  2. In June of 2009, I spent two wonderful days in Brugge myself. I only learned about the town after seeing the Colin Farrell movie “In Bruges.” I fell in love with the town from the cinematography and immediately made plans to visit.
I love that town. It is charming, has excellent restaurants, easy access to everything by foot and plenty to take in. I highly recommend staying a night because you can go out after the day trippers have all gone and really see what the town has to offer and get to know the people who call it home.
Love your photos. I don’t blame you for taking that many in only two days. I nearly did the same. Didn’t you just love Minnewater? I did.

    • I loved Brugge and completely enjoyed the time I spent there. And, you’re absolutely correct. You really do have to stay overnight so you can be there after the day trippers have all gone back to where they came from. Most of the photos that I took were taken in the early morning hours before 6AM.

I too saw the movie years ago. But, after this trip, I had to rent it again, which was kinda cool.

      Thanks for stopping by!!

  3. It was a beautiful experience to view your shots of the lovely Belgian city. I am sure you have many more beautiful pics. Please share a few more, esp. the ones combining architecture with people, otherwise the city looks haunted ;-))
