Everyone who knows me know that when I go to Stockholm, I go on a sugar binge. Stockholm’s candy stores are like no other. And, it’s no secret that I’m addicted. I don’t try to hide; I wallow in it. This is a video about me shopping for an Abaya in Saudi Arabia. You can read the entire story here: Black Chick in Saudi The thing is, most “western” women (who aren’t Muslim) who move to Saudi Arabia, has to get used to the concept of the abaya. I think the reason for this is that it represents everything that women in the west have fought hard against. But, if you live in an Islamic country, you gotta get over yourself, which I did. So, this video kinda is about me getting over myself, and you may learn a little something about how the abaya should be worn.

And that’s how it started. I was in Vasteras and had my first TweetMeet. What’s a TweetMeet? Basically, it’s when people who have been interacting on Twiiter decide to meet up in person.

By chance I happened to have found myself going to Västerås for a music video shoot at Karlsgatan 2. When Elaine (RunawayBrit) reached out to meet up, I was both surprised and excited. Wasn’t sure if I was going to “do it,” I’m feel a little shy about meeting strangers, which is why I talk too much. LOL. Anyway, I’m glad I did. Elaine is a wonderful person, I’m glad I took the time to meet her. Now, when I see her on Twitter, for some reason I feel like it’s more personal.

Anyway…following is a short video from what turned out to be a 2-hr TweetMeet.

My 1st Year Living in Saudi Arabia

December 28th was my 1 year anniversary for living in Saudi Arabia. During that time, I received a lot of questions about living here. I answer some of those questions in this video. The 1st year was dedicated really to my just adjusting to the environment, and just surviving. There was a lot happening in that year that I was adjusting to in regards to “life transitions”. My son was on his own, I quit my job, became a housewife, and moved to a country in which I’m not really considered a person…I’m my husband’s dependent. All of these seemed to drain me at times as I tried to redefine who I was, and what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. It’s amazing how when you have time on your hand…and you’re away from the “daily grind” of what was once your life. The 2nd year I think will probably be more about finding myself again.

This video is shot in my living room, in Saudi Arabia.
